SMK Vision has no server. There is no account to create, nothing is logged, and the developer receives no data of any kind. The only thing that ever leaves your computer is a screenshot you explicitly asked to send, going directly to the AI service whose API key you entered yourself.
When you press its keyboard shortcut or click its toolbar button, SMK Vision captures an image of the visible area of your current browser tab, sends that image to one or more AI vision models you have configured, and displays the model's answer in a small panel on the page. Nothing happens unless you trigger it.
All of the following is kept in Chrome's extension storage, on your computer only. None of it is transmitted to the developer, and none of it is synced between your devices.
The keys you enter are stored in chrome.storage.local. That storage area is
explicitly restricted to trusted extension contexts, which means the script that runs on
ordinary web pages cannot read your keys — only the extension's own background worker and
settings page can. Keys are sent only to the service they belong to, over HTTPS, and are
stripped out of every error message the extension displays.
Your chosen models, care level, timeouts, answer prompt, appearance preferences, and any custom keyboard shortcuts are stored the same way.
The ten most recent answers are kept so you can re-display one without spending another request. Each entry holds the answer text, a timestamp, and which models produced it. Screenshots are never stored, and API keys are never stored in this history. You can delete any single entry, or clear the whole list, from the settings page.
Details of the most recent request — what each model replied and how long it took — are kept in session storage so you can inspect a failure. This is discarded when you close your browser.
Exactly one thing is transmitted, and only when you trigger a capture: the screenshot image, together with your answer instructions. It goes directly from your browser to the AI provider you configured, authenticated with your own API key. The screenshot is held in memory for the duration of that request and then discarded — the extension never writes it to disk and never sends it anywhere else.
A screenshot may contain whatever happens to be visible in your tab at that moment. You decide when to capture and, if you use area selection, exactly which part of the page is included.
These are the only external addresses the extension can reach. Each is used only if you have entered a key for it.
generativelanguage.googleapis.comapi.groq.comopenrouter.aiapi.mistral.aiapi.openai.comOnce your screenshot reaches one of these services it is governed by that company's privacy policy and data-retention practices, not this one. Review the policy of whichever service you choose to use, and do not capture anything you are not willing to send to it.
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
activeTab | Capture a screenshot of the tab you invoke the extension on. |
tabs | Read the address of the tab an answer came from, so a saved answer is only re-shown on that same page. |
scripting | Draw the answer panel and the area-selection rectangle on the page when you run it. |
storage | Keep your keys, settings and recent answers on your device. |
offscreen | Run a request in a worker that outlives the background script, so a slow answer is not cut off. |
clipboardWrite | Copy the answer when you click it. |
http://*/*https://*/* | Show the answer panel on whatever page you are reading, and detect the custom keyboard shortcuts you configured. |
Chrome summarises that last entry as permission to "read and change all your data on all websites", which is the only wording Chrome offers for it. In practice the extension does not read page content. The script that runs on pages listens for the specific key combinations you set in settings and does nothing else; it holds no keys and inspects no text. The answer to your question comes from an image of the screen, not from reading the document.
The developer receives no user data and therefore has none to share. Nothing is sold, rented, traded, or transferred to any third party, and nothing is used for advertising, creditworthiness or lending purposes. The AI provider you choose receives your screenshot because you directed the extension to send it there.
SMK Vision is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. Since it collects no personal information from anyone, there is nothing to delete on request.
If the extension's handling of data changes, this policy is updated and the effective date at the top is revised. Material changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
Questions about this policy, or about how the extension handles your data, can be raised at github.com/taaha64/smk-vision/issues.
